Glastonbury Festival axes screening of ‘hateful’ conspiracy theory documentary about Jeremy Corbyn’s downfall

GLASTONBURY Festival has cancelled a screening of a conspiracy theory documentary about the downfall of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

It comes after the Board of Deputies of British Jews expressed “deep concern” over the film, titled Oh Jeremy Corbyn: The Big Lie.

Glastonbury has pulled a screening of the Jeremy Corbyn documentary after the Board of Deputies of British Jews expressed ‘deep concern’

In a letter to Glastonbury organisers, BDBJ president Marie Van der Zyl said: “This film seeks to suggest organisations such as the BDBJ somehow helped to orchestrate Jeremy Corbyn’s downfall as Labour Party leader.”

She said the film “profoundly sinister” seeks “to indoctrinate people into believing a conspiracy theory effectively aimed at Jewish organisations”.

Ms Van der Zyl adds: “Your festival is one of the most successful in the UK.

“We would request you do not allow your festival to be hijacked by those seeking to promote hatred with no basis in fact.

“In the same way, we would hope that your festival would not screen films seeking to promote other conspiracy theories, such as anti-vaccination, 9/11 truthers or chemtrails.”

Glastonbury said although it believed the film had been booked “in good faith”, it had decided not to screen it.

The BDBJ later said it was pleased the screening had been axed.

The organization tweeted: “We are pleased that in the wake of a letter we sent earlier today, @glastonbury have announced the cancellation of the screening of this film.”

The maker, Platform Films, has been approached for comment.
