FIXING the Navy’s leaky aircraft carriers will cost £5.5million.
Trending In The News revealed how a burst fire main blew the electric propulsion system on HMS Prince of Wales, leaving her stranded in Portsmouth for a year.
It was the second major flood caused by dodgy plumbing this year.
The 65,000 tonne ship was due to sail to America to train with F-35 jets but the voyage had to be cancelled while engineers fix miles of high voltage cables.
Defence Minister Jeremy Quin said the repairs would cost £3.3million.
Another £2.2million is being spent on fixing leaky pipes on HMS Prince of Wales and her sister ship HMS Queen Elizabeth, to stop it happening again.
*Stephen Morgan, Shadow armed forces Minister, said: *“We all want to see HMS Prince of Wales operational again as soon as possible.
“It’s vital that our nation’s military assets are ready to face whatever comes.”
