THE Government faced demands to relax Tier 3 rules to allow wakes to take place after it emerged they are illegal from today.
Under current national lockdown rules, wakes can take place in hotels.
But from today even hotels will be banned from hosting wakes in Tier 3 areas of England under the new regional Tiers system that comes into effect.
The rules bar wakes from taking place in any hospitality venue – including pubs.
And the new rules are far stricter than before the November lockdown.
Pubs and hotels in Tier 3 areas, which includes Kent, Greater Manchester, large parts of the West Midlands and the North East, will face fines if they go ahead with wakes from today.
The rules prevent families and friends from giving loved ones a proper send off.
