Ellie Goulding and Emma Watson among 300 demanding more women be part of UN climate summit

ELLIE Goulding, Emma Watson and Lily Cole are among 300 women calling for more female representation at next year’s UN climate conference.

COP26 will be the largest summit the UK has hosted and is seen as the most significant climate event since the Paris Agreement in 2015.

Ellie Goulding has added her voice to call for more female representation at next year’s UN climate conference

Singer Ellie and her fellow stars signed a letter to the Government demanding more women be in leadership positions on the British team.

They claim less than 25 per cent of the current team are women.

The campaign — organised by SHEChangesClimate — asks COP26 to support gender equality and ensure women are fairly represented at the event in Glasgow in November 2021.

Emma Watson was also among the 300 women who signed a letter to the Government

The letter says: “It is incomprehensible that half the planet is not represented in the senior leadership team.”

The say that not strengthening female voices in the debate would be a “step backwards for climate justice and a failure of responsibility to put together the strongest team”.

The letter adds that a lack of diversity will undermine the Government’s global credibility on climate change.
