DOMINIC Raab last night hit back at claims from his staff that he threw a tomato in a fight of rage – as he awaits his fate in an independent investigation.
The Deputy PM – who refused to step down but asked PM Rishi Sunak for a probe into at least three complaints – said he had acted “professionally at all times”.

And he stressed that he had been completely unaware of any complaints about him before November 16 – despite Simon McDonald saying he had tried to raise it with him previously.
He said that claims in The Sun he had angrily chucked tomatoes around were not correct.
Mr Raab insisted: “I have never thrown anything in anger at anyone, whether it’s a tomato or anything else, and it’s just simply not true.
“Rather than deal with anonymous allegations made to newspapers, I think the right thing to do is transparently address the claims to an independent investigator.”
He was speaking as he dropped in on a training session for call-handlers on how to listen properly – ahead of the launch of a new 24/7 rape helpline.
Survivors will have access to round-the-clock support with a new chat system and phoneline – booted by £6million of government cash.
The deputy PM admitted rape victims are “absolutely” waiting far too long to see justice done in court thanks to spiralling backlog.
But he refused to say sorry despite failures – and insisted the number of rape conviction rates were finally going up again after years of decline.
