THE COST of childcare and cars could be slashed under plans to ease the cost of living pain.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps is pushing to make MOTs every two years rather than annually to help Brits with the cost of running their motors.
This could save motorists £55 a year.
While ministers are also planning a massive PR blitz urging families to take up the offer of £2,000 a year towards childcare costs.
Currently 1.3 million families do not take up the offer of up to £2,000 a year towards childcare costs.
But last night the AA came out against the MOT changes.

Jack Cousens from the AA; said: “Though well intended, moving the yearly £55 spend on an MOT to every two years could make costs worse for drivers with higher repair bills, make our roads more dangerous and would put jobs in the garage industry at risk.”
On the cost of living, Kit Malthouse the policing minister insisted the only way to help Brits was to cut their taxes.
One government insider said: “it was just one long job pitch to be chancellor”.
