Beijing's "Wolf Warriors" on the prowl for senior politicians
Sir Iain Duncan Smith, a former Tory leader, has raised concerns about Chinese spies stalking him and other top Tories during the election period. He mentioned that these spies, also known as "Wolf Warriors," are stealing identities to spread misinformation.
Targeted for speaking out against China's actions
Sir Iain believes he is being targeted because of his outspoken criticism of China's alleged genocide against the Uighur population in Xinjiang. He revealed that up to seven British MPs have been sanctioned by the Chinese government for standing up for the Uighurs.
Meddling in the General Election
Expressing his concerns, Sir Iain warned that Beijing is already interfering in the General Election. He mentioned instances where politicians received emails pretending to be from him, stating that his views on China have changed, when in fact, they haven't.
Heightened surveillance and precautions
Sir Iain shared that he assumes his phone is being monitored daily and takes precautions like storing it in a cupboard during sensitive conversations. He also highlighted the broader threats facing the UK, calling it the biggest challenge since the end of the Cold War.
New axis of totalitarian states posing a threat
Describing the current scenario, Sir Iain pointed out the emergence of a new axis of totalitarian states including China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran. He emphasized the need to be vigilant as these countries are working in unison to advance their interests.
