Brits Still Back Ukraine Despite Financial Costs of War, Poll Finds

Overwhelming Support for Ukraine

A recent poll has revealed that the majority of Brits are willing to make sacrifices to support Ukraine, despite the financial burdens of the ongoing war. The survey, conducted nearly two years after Putin's invasion, found that 60% of voters believe the UK should stand firmly with President Zelensky's struggle, even if it means facing hardships at home.

Minority Oppose Support

Only 20% of respondents believed that Chancellor Rishi Sunak should not support Ukraine if it puts pressure on families in the UK. Meanwhile, 14% of those polled admitted they were unsure about the issue.

Importance of Victory

The poll also revealed that a mere 6% of respondents were indifferent to Ukraine's efforts to defeat Russia. In contrast, 48% declared victory as "very important," and an additional 27% considered it "somewhat important."

Dispelling Claims of Waning Support

This More In Common poll contradicts Italian PM Giorgia Meloni's assertion that the West is losing interest in the conflict. It also dismisses concerns that the Israel-Hamas conflict is diverting attention and support away from Ukraine.

Desire to Reclaim Territory

A significant majority, 60%, believe that Britain should assist Ukraine in reclaiming territory it held prior to Russia's invasion. Additionally, 26% of respondents want Ukraine to recover the land it had before the 2014 annexation of Crimea.

Staying the Course

According to pollster Luke Tryl, the survey results show that despite the focus on the Israel-Hamas war in the media and politics, the British public has not forgotten about Ukraine. He emphasized that the majority of respondents firmly believe that Ukraine's victory is important to Britain and that the UK should continue its support, even if it comes at a cost domestically.
