PEOPLE are right to fear net migration of more than half a million, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said yesterday.
She said it is “legitimate to question whether the levels of lawful migration are sustainable”.
Suella Braverman said that a high net migration puts a strain on housing in the UK
Around 1.1million people came into the UK last year and 560,000 people emigrated, leaving a net migration of around 504,000 people.
Ms Braverman declined to repeat her previous aspiration to have that net figure down to the “tens of thousands”.
But she told the BBC the high number puts “pressure on housing and accommodation supply”.
Speaking to the BBC she added: “It is legitimate to question whether the levels of lawful migration are sustainable.”
She instead said: “Our manifesto commitment is very clear, that we want to get overall numbers down. And I think it is fair.”
