The ex-PM spoke out as the US, Britain and Poland have dashed Ukraine’s hopes of getting F-16s fighter jets soon.

Speaking in Washington, Boris praised the US contribution so far in helping President Zelensky “turn the tide of this war”.

But rallying allies for more kit, he said: “My mission is to demonstrate that Ukraine will win – and that there is no conceivable case for delay in further supporting the Ukrainians to win this year.

“We should have no fear of escalation when it comes to the provision of weaponary.”

US President Biden said he had no plans to send F-16s – despite a glut of the single-seater Fighting Falcons.

Downing Street said it was “not practical” to send RAF Typhoons while Poland’s deputy defence minister there were no “official conversatons” on sending some of its F-16s.

Kyiv shrugged off the rejections insisting it was only a matter of time before allies changed their minds.

Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said: ”All types of assistance passed the no stage. This means no, as of today.

“It happened with HIMARS missile launcehrs, it happened with 155-mm artillery, with the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles,” he added.

“With the German Leopard tank it was also a no at first, and now we have a tank coalition.

“That’s why I believe in the future aircraft coalition.”

Speaking in Paris added: “There must always be a leader first. That’s why I’m here.”

Reznikov said he discussed aircraft and air defence with his French counterpart

He added: “We did not talk about the specific name of the aircraft.

“We talked about the fact that tactical aviation is also an element of air defence.”

President Macron had earlier said that jets were not off the table.

The head of the US Air Force General Charles Brown said allies were looking for suitable jets – including French Rafale and Swedish Gripen fighters.

Kyiv insists it needs western fighters to blast back Putin’s invaders, along with hundreds of main battle tanks.
