BORIS Johnson could return as PM one day and “anything could happen”, his former adviser says.
Lord Eddie Lister said he would “never write him off” and knows he will be “sad” about how things turned out as he leaves office tomorrow.
As Boris Johnson leaves office tomorrow, his former adviser Lord Eddie Lister reveals he would ‘never write him off’ to return as PM one day
The former Downing Street Chief of Staff told Sky’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “I’d never say never on anything with Boris Johnson, anything is possible in the future.
“He is going to be watching all this and if something happens in the future, as you said, if the ball comes loose in the scrum, then anything could happen.
“I would never write him off.”
Blasting his Partygate fine as “deeply unfair”, he said his former boss was “tough” and hit out at Tory MPs for ousting him, saying they “overreacted” and “stopped thinking straight”.
He added: “I think he was the best Prime Minister we’ve had.
‘I think he would have continued to be a good Prime Minister and I think he would have been very successful in a further general election.”
