Boris Johnson ‘considering bid to replace Liz Truss as PM in matter of national interest’ after topping favourites’ poll

BORIS Johnson could stand again to be PM after he topped a poll from Tory members.

Liz Truss resigned as PM earlier today after overwhelming pressure from MPs.

And already MPs are lining up to say they could stand to replace her.

The former PM, Mr Johnson, is considering running to stand too, it was revealed earlier.

MPs were last night openly speculating whether he would be willing to step in to calm the chaos.

But they said he would likely have to wait until after the privileges committee probe into whether he lied to MPs over after party gate – which was not expected to start for another few weeks.

One Senior MP told Trending In The News: “He’s got a mandate from voters, a mandate from the party. It could definitely happen.”

If Tory members get a vote, as expected, then he could be in with a major shot at winning, as he’s still so popular with them.

According to a poll out this week, the majority of Tory members want Boris to replace Ms Truss.

63 per cent think he would be a good replacement.

32 per cent put him as the top candidate, followed by Mr Sunak at 23 per cent.

Earlier today MP Paul Bristow said his constituents would welcome seeing Boris back in charge.
