Boris Johnson accused of ‘body-shaming’ after cracking a cake joke at PMQs

MPS and charities yesterday accused Boris Johnson of “body shaming” after he cracked a cake joke at PMQs.

SNP leader Ian Blackford made a partygate jibe to the PM, saying an impending National Insurance hike “hangs like a guillotine while they eat cake”.

To laughter, the PM replied: “I don’t know who has been eating more cake.”

SNP deputy leader at Westminster, Kirsten Oswald, said his “frequently offensive remarks will have a damaging impact on many young people and need to be called out.”

Tom Quinn of eating disorder charity Beat also slammed the “fat-phobic” quip.

He urged the PM to “limit his comments of other MPs to their actions, not appearances”

Meanwhile, telly chef Nigella Lawson roasted Tory MP Conor Burns, who said earlier this week the PM had been “ambushed by cake” on his birthday.

When she said it had to be “the title of my next book”, the MP tweeted: “It’s yours if you want it!

“Could I include my Granny’s Christmas cake recipe?”

She replied: “You think it’s a joke? Says it all.”
