Plot Unveiled
Carlisle 'Pop' Rivera, one of the alleged hitmen in Iran's assassination conspiracy against Donald Trump, has been charged by the FBI. Prosecutors claim he was also hired to kill a New York journalist, leaving her in shock.
Conspiracy Details
Rivera became involved in the plot when Farhad Shakeri hired him to run surveillance on a journalist. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard was allegedly behind the scheme, with Shakeri acting as a middleman.
Chilling Plans
Rivera was allegedly tailing the Iranian journalist and waiting for a $100,000 payment before attempting to kill her. Messages and photos shared between the conspirators were provided to the Manhattan court by the FBI.
Legal Action
Rivera and his accomplice, Jonathon Loadholt, appeared in court and were remanded in custody pending a criminal trial. They face charges of money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
US Response
US officials expressed grave concern over Iran's assassination plots, with Attorney General Merrick Garland highlighting the threat posed by the regime. FBI chief Christopher Wray emphasized that such deadly schemes will not be tolerated on US soil.
Trump's Reaction
News of the plot came shortly after sources in Trump's transition team revealed plans to apply maximum pressure on Iran. Trump had previously mentioned threats on his life by Iran and expressed the need for heightened security.
