Xbox's New Series X: More Than Just a New Paint Job

New Consoles, New Savings

Xbox has recently unveiled two new versions of the Xbox Series X, including a discless option and a 2TB version with double the storage space at a slightly increased price point. The discless version comes in white, while the 2TB version sports a black design with green speckles.

Energy Efficiency at Its Best

The new Xbox Series X consoles are not just about looks. They are more energy-efficient, with the 2TB model requiring 10 watts less power to run when idle compared to the original. The discless version is even more efficient, running at just 38 watts when idle, a significant improvement over the original's 61 watts.

Performance and Components

Inside the new Xbox Series X consoles, YouTuber Austin Evans discovered significant differences from the originals. The new consoles feature a new motherboard and a smaller chip, resulting in lower power consumption during both idle and gameplay. The 2TB version is the most efficient, running at just 151 watts while playing games.

Improved Cooling System

The new consoles have replaced the vapour chamber cooling system with a traditional copper piper system. Despite this change, there have been no reported differences in noise or temperature levels of the consoles.

Should You Upgrade?

While the energy-saving features of the new Xbox Series X consoles may not be a sole reason to upgrade, they do offer improved efficiency. If you are in the market for a new console, considering the newer models could save you money in the long run on energy bills.
