Protective Fans
For many gamers, the library of exclusive games is what sets one console apart from another. Nintendo has its iconic series, such as Zelda, Mario, and Pokémon, while PlayStation boasts titles like Horizon, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Xbox, on the other hand, lacks a truly iconic series. However, the platform does have some excellent award-winning exclusive games that its fans are fiercely protective of.
Fears and Concerns
Xbox fans worry that if the company starts releasing its exclusive titles on other platforms, it may eventually stop making consoles altogether and focus solely on game development. While Xbox consoles may not be as popular as PlayStation or Nintendo, they still hold a significant share of the console gaming market. As such, news that one of Xbox's best exclusives, Hi-Fi Rush, may be coming to other consoles has upset many fans.
Potential Expansion
Reports indicate that there are plans to bring Hi-Fi Rush, an Xbox-exclusive rhythm action game that won Best Audio Design at The Game Awards 2023, to other platforms. Rumors suggest that it could be released on Nintendo Switch and PS5 later this year. There are also suggestions that another highly-rated Xbox game, Pentiment, may also expand to new platforms in the near future.
Xbox's Approach
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has repeatedly expressed the company's desire to make games accessible to as many players as possible. He has stated that their goal is to allow gamers to play the games they want on the devices they prefer. This approach may be exciting for some, but it has left Xbox fans concerned about the future of exclusivity.
