Two Microsoft Xbox services set to close – impact on purchases & online multiplayer titles

Xbox fans, take note!

Xbox enthusiasts have been given a heads-up that two Microsoft services are bidding farewell as of tomorrow. The announcement made back in May will result in the removal of hundreds of games from one platform.

What's changing?

The services on the chopping block are the Xbox 360 Store and the Xbox 360 Marketplace, affecting users of Xbox 360 consoles. However, fret not if you own an Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X as your digital stores will remain unaffected.

No need to panic!

Existing purchases for Xbox 360 players are safe, and there's no rush to download them all before the services close. The only change is that new purchases will no longer be possible, including games, trials, add-ons, and more.

What about online multiplayer?

Thankfully, online multiplayer is here to stay for previously downloaded games and disc-owned titles. But remember, online services' availability depends on the support from publishers, not Microsoft.

How to access previous purchases?

To retrieve your previous purchases on any Xbox 360 device, follow these simple steps: Settings > Account > Download History. Microsoft advises transferring licenses to your console for offline gameplay.
