UPCOMING zombie game The Day Before has had a rocky start, plagued with controversy and delays just weeks before it was intended to be released.
Despite that, the game’s developers insist that it’s still coming, and that players will be pleased with the gameplay and graphics on offer.
The Day Before originally had to release in 2022, but the game was delayed
Its first 2023 release date was missed too, and fans are expecting further delays
Some gamers aren’t so sure, however, and a lot of the story surrounding the game has many people unsure if it even exists.
Here’s everything we know so far about The Day Before’s release date, why it was delayed, and more.
What is the release date for The Day Before?
The Day Before was originally planned to be released in June 2022, before being pushed back by several months due to an engine change.
Its subsequent release date was March 1, 2023, but that release date was missed too, with the game now intending to release much later than initially slated.
Now, developer Fntastic says that The Day Before will be released on November 10, 2023, but many believe it may be delayed again.
That’s because the developer has yet to show off much in terms of gameplay, and what little gameplay that has been released seems quite underdeveloped.
Will The Day Before release on console?
Many gamers have been hoping for news on a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S release for The Day Before, but at this stage it seems unlikely to happen.
The game’s developer has said that it’s looking into the possibility of a console release, but previous games from the company were PC-only releases.
The developer said in 2021 that its previous game, Propnight, would have console news announced “soon”, but as of 2023 no announcement has been made.
The Day Before’s official website only lists the game as coming to PC, so while a console release isn’t impossible, it is unlikely.
Will The Day Before be multiplayer?
The Day Before is set to be an online multiplayer game which will allow multiple players to party up and work together to take down zombies.
While it will be possible for players to play the game alone, developer Fntastic says that The Day Before was developed with a multiplayer focus in mind.
Previous games from Fntastic, such as Propnight and The Wild Eight, were also multiplayer games, and have received mixed to positive reviews.
It’s not currently known if the game will require an always-online connection, or if players will be able to play if their PC is not connected to the internet.
Why did The Day Before get delayed?
The Day Before’s delay was the topic of much controversy and conjecture in early 2023, but its first delay from June 2022 to early 2023 was due to a change in engine from Unreal 4 to Unreal 5.
The delay to November 2023 is much more complicated, as the developer originally said that it was due to a trademark dispute over the game’s name.
It later went back on this statement, saying that a delay for the game had been planned before the trademark dispute happened.
Fantastic says that the primary reason for the delay was to polish and improve the game, so that players can enjoy it when it releases.
