The Gordo slimes want to be fed.

Like any farming game there are numerous ways to maximise profits and figuring out the best ones can be difficult.

Here are our tips for getting the most out of the early game, what slimes to focus on, and how to set yourself up for success.

Adjust the difficulty settings

As a family friendly game there are a number of options to make the game more approachable for younger players.

You can turn off both Tar and Feral slimes, so you never have to worry about fending them off so your farm doesn’t become corrupt.

Combat also has an adjustable slider. You can limit the damage you take in fights making the game easier.

Explore the world at different times

Exploring the world is one of the most important parts of Slime Rancher 2.

It’s how you find the game’s story, and where you can find new slimes, food and resources for your farm.

Make sure you explore the world during both the day and the night.

Some slimes don’t appear in the day, and these slimes, while more dangerous to collect, also produce more valuable plorts.

Make sure you feed the Gordo slimes

Giant slimes on the starting island may seem impossible to collect but there is a way.

These Gordo slimes need to be fed. Do so over and over and eventually they’ll explode.

Not only can you then pick up the smaller slimes it leaves behind, but it will unveil a secret path to explore.

Make your slimes want to stay

Keeping your slimes on your farm is one of the hardest parts of Slime Rancher 2.

You can upgrade your corals to keep your slimes contained, but keeping them happy is the easiest way to make them stay put.

If slimes are hungry they may just bounce right out of your coral.

Feed them regularly and install a music player in their coral to keep them happy.

Feed them their favourite foods

Like with real-life animals, different slimes like to eat different kinds of foods.

When you feed a slime their favourite food, they’ll produce twice the number of plorts, doubling your profits.

You may not always have it to hand, but keep this in mind and feed them their favourites when you can.

Collect Phosphorous slimes ASAP

While Pink and Cotton slimes are easy to come by, the real money comes by collecting Phosphorous slimes.

They only spawn at night (see tip 2) and they need a coral with double-high walls, an air net and solar shields, but it’s worth it.

If you don’t build their habitat this way, they will die as soon as the sun rises.

You can also keep them in the cave expansion, but this is a little later on.

Create and take care of Largo slimes

Creating Largo slimes is the easiest way to turn a profit, and it’s simple to do.

Feed a regular slime a plort from a different type of slime, and they will become a Largo slime, taking on the diet and plorts of both slime types.

Be careful not to feed them a third plort type, as this will corrupt the Largo slime turning into a Tar slime.

If you don’t keep your Largo slimes well-fed, they can also become Feral. Be sure to feed these slimes often.

Sell plort in cycles for the best prices

You can not afford to farm only one type of plort, as the prices of each plort falls and rises with the market.

If you sell too much of one type, the market will become flooded and the prices will drop.

You can sell a large batch of one kind of plort, but then it is best to wait a while before you sell it again.

Sell plort in cycles, so you never have to deal with the price dropping through the floor.

Optimise don’t magnify

While expanding your farm is enticing, you may want to hold off before you make big purchases.

These are expensive, and you get quite a lot of room to start out your farm.

At the start, spend your money optimising the space you have before focussing on expansion.

Upgrade your gear whenever possible

You will find that your default gear quickly becomes subpar when exploring the world.

There is a large range of tools which can be created to make your job ranching slimes easier.

You will be able to harvest more minerals, hold more stuff, and have more health and energy.

There are even new ways to cross the map making your job even easier.
