Silent Hill 2 Remake: Everything we know about the rumoured reboot

SILENT Hill 2 will reportedly be shown during this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS). This is why we think the remake is on the cards.

TGS is Japan’s premier gaming convention where most Japanese developers and publishers first show off their games.

This year Konami has a slot open for a “mystery game” based on a world-famous historic game from its library.

Many believe this to be a remake of its most popular Silent Hill game, Silent Hill 2.

Rumours started when creator Masahiro Ito tweeted out “I f**king hate Pyramid Head” the antagonist from Silent Hill 2.

Ito has been outspoken about his disgust for the direction Konami has taken with his iconic character, even stepping away from the franchise over it.

Initially fans believed this was a reference to Pyramid Head’s inclusion in Hooked on You, a Dead by Daylight dating sim where you date killers from the game.

However, now the game has been released we know that Pyramid Head is not included, pointing to his inclusion in a different game.

Polish Studio Bloober team apparently pitched the idea of the remake to Konami, using its history of well-received horror games.

The team which developed Layers of Fear, Observer, and Blair Witch, worked with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka for the 2021 game The Medium.

Screenshots from the rumoured pitch leaked in 2018, containing low-budget proof of concept art and designs.

However, a more recent leak shows more complete images, which look as if the game is currently in development.

This year’s TGS will be held from September 15, to 18, with the unannounced game reportedly getting 45 minutes of stage time.

It is scheduled from 3:30pm to 4:15pm Japan time, on September 16, and will be presented by voice actor Yuki Kaji.

Kaji is known for playing soft-spoken characters, such as Adol Christin from the Ys series.

His voice would fit well with Silent Hill 2 protagonist James Sunderland.
