Red Dead Redemption launches on new platforms with impressive upgrades

Join the fun on Nintendo and PlayStation

One of the biggest games of all time, Red Dead Redemption, was previously only available on Xbox through backwards compatibility. But now, fans can rejoice as the game has launched on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5.

Notable upgrades for new players

While this release is a simple port and not a remaster or remake, there are still some exciting upgrades for gamers. The Xbox Series X version, running the Xbox 360 version, offers a resolution of 2160p. The Xbox Series S reaches 1440p, still a significant improvement. On the PS4 and PS5, players can expect similar upgrades from the PS3 version, with a resolution of 2160p. The major difference between the Xbox and PlayStation versions is the number of graphical options available, with PlayStation offering anti-aliasing for a crisp image while playing.

Nintendo Switch: lower resolution but still impressive

As expected, the resolution on the Nintendo Switch is lower, but still meets the system's capabilities with 720p in handheld mode and 1080p in docked mode. Surprisingly, Red Dead Redemption runs well on the Switch despite its hardware limitations. However, some users have reported encountering crashing issues, particularly after long play sessions. Thankfully, the auto-save function minimizes progress loss. The main drawback on the Switch is that in handheld mode, enemies can be difficult to spot and aiming can be challenging.

PlayStation version emerges as the best option

Overall, the PlayStation version of Red Dead Redemption seems to be the best option for players. However, it comes at a higher price of £15 ($20) more than the other platforms. Gamers will have to weigh whether the improved graphics are worth the extra cost.
