Reduced Size, But Not as Slim as Expected
The highly anticipated PS5 Slim is set to launch this month, and early adopters are already getting their hands on the first models. However, fans have been taken aback by the console's size, leading them to dub it the PS5 Slim.
Weight Reduction, But Still Chunky
One of the most noticeable differences is the weight of the PS5 Slim, which has been significantly reduced. Picking up the console, it's clear that it's over a pound lighter than the standard model. However, despite the name, the PS5 Slim is not as slim as many were expecting.
Size Comparison to Original Xbox
The PS5 Slim is even larger in size when compared to the original Xbox model. While it is somewhat shorter than the original PS5, it ends up being a little thicker when the disc drive is included. Additionally, the console does not come with a vertical stand, limiting its advantage in terms of height.
Improved Performance and Cooling
Despite its size, PS5 owners have noticed that the console works better when placed horizontally, as it helps prevent overheating. The new model also features a more compact fan, which reduces the noise on boot-up. However, in terms of performance, there should be no compromise, as the same hardware is on the inside.
Shell Differences and Pricing
Another difference with the PS5 Slim is that the shell is now in four pieces instead of the original two. This means that if you purchased shells for the old PS5 model, they won't be compatible with the new model. It should be noted that PlayStation has not officially named the new model the PS5 Slim, so fans weren't misled about the console's size. However, some were disappointed with the lack of improvements, especially considering the new model's higher price tag.
