Sony has finally addressed a long-standing complaint from gamers by releasing a free update for PS5 consoles worldwide. The update includes several major new features, but the one that has everyone talking is the ability to switch off the annoying beep noise that has plagued PlayStation devices for years. With the new update, players now have the option to mute the sound once and for all.

Users took to social media to express their relief at the long-awaited fix. One Twitter user said, "All the married PS5 gamers gonna f***ing mute the PS5 beep today. Something they wanted for so long finally an update to save the marriage." Another added, "TODAY IS THE DAY PEOPLE, PS5 update comes so you can officially mute the beep sound. Millions of lives will be saved!"

Exciting new features and improvements

Aside from the beep sound fix, the latest PS5 update also brings a host of other improvements. Sony has introduced support for Dolby Atmos, enhancing the sound experience for gamers using soundbars and home theatre systems. Netflix and other apps are set to benefit from this feature once they receive their own separate updates.

Additionally, more Android devices can now utilize PS Remote Play to stream games from the PS4 or PS5 console. This feature is now compatible with televisions running Android TV OS 12.

Gamers in the UK and US can also expect new voice command options as part of the update. Commands like "Hey PlayStation, help" and "Hey PlayStation, what’s new?" have been added for a more convenient and hands-free gaming experience.

Another notable addition is the ability to use a second controller for assistance. Sony explained, "You can now assign a second controller to one account as an assist controller, and use two controllers to operate your PS5 console as if you were using a single controller. This feature introduces a new way for you to enjoy games collaboratively with others or help a friend or child navigate a particularly challenging section of a game."
