PLAYSTATION VR 2 was officially announced in February 2021, and now we finally have a release date.
The original PSVR was released back in 2016, and is not compatible with current PS5 games.
PSVR2 was confirmed to be in development in February 2021.
It can be used with a PS5 via a special adaptor. However, only the PS4 versions of games will work with the virtual reality system.
The hardware is also very out of date, and no longer up to the standard of current headsets.
PlayStation VR is the only console based virtual reality headset on the market, and console gamers were eager to see an upgrade.
While details about the new system have been slowly released by Sony over the past year and a half, the price and release date has remained secret.
In tweets, the official PlayStation account has revealed the PSVR2 will launch in early 2023.
PSVR2 will address a number of issues that players encountered with the original PSVR.
The new headset will feature current VR standards such as near 4K display, eye tracking, and individual eye adjustment.
There will also be haptic feedback in the headset to help with motion sickness, and one cable connecting it to the console, compared to the previous five.
A number of games have also been announced as in development for the upcoming console.
Rumours suggest Gran Turismo 7 will receive a VR update once the headset is released.
Guerilla Games has also confirmed that a new game from the Horizon series is being developed specifically for PSVR2, called Horizon Call of the Mountain.
First Contact Development has also announced it is developing a game solely for Sony’s upcoming VR.
Those building the hardware for the new system believed that it would be released by the end of 2022 in time for the holiday season.
However, due to delays in PS5 production, it is now believed that Sony delayed the release date in hopes of creating a larger install base for the console by the end of the year.
