PlayStation players reportedly have nothing to fear as Xbox purchases Call of Duty giant

The Deal is Done

Following the UK's approval of Xbox's purchase of the world's largest publisher, PlayStation fans were concerned about the fate of their favorite games. However, Xbox wasted no time in announcing that the acquisition has been completed, with Call of Duty and other popular titles now under their ownership.

Exclusive Games and Multiple Platforms

Microsoft, as the new owner, boasts a number of massive gaming studios, allowing them to develop exclusive games. While some studios acquired by Microsoft continue to support multiple platforms, others have made their titles exclusive to Xbox and Windows. For example, Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, still offers its game on multiple platforms, including PlayStation and Nintendo.

What About Activision Blizzard?

Activision Blizzard is a major publisher that owns several major studios and gaming properties, including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Candy Crush. PlayStation owners were concerned that these games might be removed from their consoles after the acquisition. However, Xbox has reassured players on all platforms that they will continue to release Activision Blizzard titles wherever people play games.

An Inclusive Future

Xbox's blog post states, "Whether you play on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, PC or mobile, you are welcome here – and will remain welcome, even if Xbox isn't where you play your favorite franchise. Because when everyone plays, we all win. We believe our news today will unlock a world of possibilities for more ways to play."

A Grain of Doubt

Despite Xbox's assurances, some players remain concerned about the future of major franchises like Call of Duty. Microsoft has made similar promises in the past, only to change their decisions closer to certain game releases. For now, players on other consoles can only hope that Microsoft keeps its word.
