PlayStation Fans Left Disappointed as Major Exclusives Are Put on Hold

No New Major Franchise Titles for PlayStation in 2024

The ongoing battle between Xbox and PlayStation has taken an unexpected turn, leaving PlayStation fans in shock. While Xbox has gained a reputation as the more budget-friendly gaming option, PlayStation has built its success on a lineup of popular series and exclusive titles. However, a recent announcement has revealed that there will be no new major franchise titles for PlayStation in 2024.

Beloved Blockbusters Take a Backseat

PlayStation fans have come to expect top-notch games like God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon, and The Last of Us, which are all exclusive to the platform. These blockbuster titles have been a major draw for players, making the news of their absence in the upcoming year even more surprising for PlayStation owners.

A Shift towards Live-Service Games

During an earnings briefing, Sony president Hiroki Totoki discussed PlayStation's focus on live-service games. In a bombshell revelation, Totoki announced that major projects, including God of War Ragnarök and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, will not be released in the next fiscal year. This means that fans will have to wait until at least April 2025 to get their hands on new first-party games.

Third-Party Games Take Center Stage

While the absence of major first-party games is disappointing, Sony still has plans to keep gamers engaged with popular third-party titles. Totoki expects third-party software sales to gradually increase, thanks to the growing PlayStation 5 install base and high user engagement. Additionally, he mentioned that PS Plus is expected to continue performing well, despite a recent price increase.

Disappointment and Backlog Catch-Up

The news of the lack of first-party games has left many PlayStation fans disappointed. However, others see it as an opportunity to finally tackle their gaming backlogs. Whether it's catching up on missed titles or exploring the vast library of existing games, players will have plenty to keep themselves entertained while they wait for new major exclusives.
