PlayStation Delays Six Upcoming Games, Raises Concerns Over Gaming Quality

PlayStation's Game Delays Leave Owners Shocked

PlayStation owners were left shocked as the company announced that half of its twelve upcoming games have been delayed. Many gamers were eagerly anticipating these releases, but it seems that PlayStation is off target.

PlayStation's Focus on Live Service Games

In a previous earnings call, PlayStation revealed that it is investing more in the development of live service games. These games, such as Fortnite and Genshin Impact, have a long lifespan through regular updates. Despite their popularity and profitability, most live service games do not achieve the same level of success.

High-Risk, High-Reward Venture

While successful live service games can generate billions for their developers, there is a significant level of risk involved. Square Enix's Babylon's Fall serves as an example, as it closed less than a year after its launch. PlayStation, however, remains committed to investing in live service games and hopes for positive results.

Changes to Release Schedule

The original plan was for all twelve games, including a multiplayer game set in The Last of Us world and an online game for the Horizon series, to launch before March 2026. However, during a recent earnings call, COO Hiroki Totoki announced that only six titles will be released by FY25, with the remaining six still in development.

Focus on Game Quality

PlayStation emphasized its commitment to live service games but acknowledged that the delay in other titles is due to the progress and quality made so far. Game quality remains the company's top priority.
