PlayStation and Xbox fans unite to tear apart what should have been 2023’s best-selling game

The highly anticipated Game of the Year award season is almost here, and gamers around the world are eagerly awaiting the winner. However, this year's entry from the popular Call of Duty series is not expected to take home any prizes. In fact, fans and critics alike have torn the game to shreds.

The lowest rated game in Call of Duty history

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has the dubious honor of being the lowest-rated game in the entire history of the long-standing series. With a score of just 50 on review aggregate site Metacritic, the game has received harsh criticism from all corners. Even the most generous review only gave it a 7/10 rating.

An "all-around disappointment"

CoD: MW3 has been panned for its lack of content and has been described by players as feeling like a premium-priced DLC pack. Many have expressed their disappointment, noting that the game offers no improvements over its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2, which was released the previous year.

Vicious backlash from players

While the critics have been harsh, it is the players who have been particularly relentless in their criticism. User reviews have given the game a dismal score of 1.4/10, marking it as an "Overwhelming Dislike" and ranking it among the lowest-rated games of the year.

Sales taking a hit

The negative reception of the latest Call of Duty game seems to have had an impact on its sales. Physical copies of MW3 are reportedly selling 25% lower than the previous installment, MW2, within the same time frame. While physical game sales typically decline year on year, a 25% decrease is significantly larger than usual.

Disgruntled players seeking refunds

The dissatisfaction with the game has reached a point where searches on Google for phrases like "How to refund Call of Duty" have skyrocketed following its release. This further illustrates the disappointment and frustration felt by many gamers.
