Is Hogwarts Legacy worth it on PS4? – comparison to the PS5 version

THREE months have passed since Hogwarts Legacy first released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

It’s now also available on PS4 and Xbox One, but can these older consoles handle such a wide open world?

Is Hogwarts Legacy worth it on PS4? – comparison to the PS5 version
Fly around the magical world.

We’ve played both PlayStation versions to compare the performance on PS4 and PS5.

Here’s everything you need to know if you’re considering buying Hogwarts Legacy on PS4.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 resolution comparison

On PS5, Hogwarts Legacy can run in 1440p while in performance mode for a surprisingly crisp image.

Depending on which type of PS4 you own, the resolution is different.

The PS4 Pro can run the game at 1080p, while the PS4 can only manage 900p.

Depending on how important resolution is to you, you might want to opt for the PS5 version.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 frame rate comparison

On PS5, Hogwarts Legacy can run at 60fps in performance mode, but will dip to 45-50fps if you change to ray tracing or quality mode.

The PS4 version is locked at 30fps, but it holds at a stable rate in all environments.

You can unlock the frame rate, and you will be able to achieve 60fps inside buildings and 45fps out in the world.

However, it will not be stable, and the PS4’s lack of VRR support means that we don’t recommend it.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs PS4 loading times comparison

Here is where the major difference lies, and the main reason we would recommend the PS5 version.

Almost every load time on PS5 is five seconds or less, leading to smooth gameplay.

However, whether you are playing on PS4 or the PS4 Pro, you should expect each load to take around 40 seconds.

This is a noticeable difference when playing, so you will likely want to opt for the more speedy version.
