FORTNITE takes a different approach with new racing mode

FORTNITE seems to have taken a different approach to what is usually thought of as simply a battle royale. With new modes being added, such as yesterday’s successful launch of Lego Fortnite, the game is becoming more like a metaverse.

Introducing Rocket Racing

Rocket Racing is the second of three new modes being added into Fortnite, based on and made by the creators of Rocket League. However, instead of trying to hit your ball into the goal, it’s more of a straightforward cart racer. We say straightforward, but when you put the cars from Rocket League into a racing game, it will always be anything but.

Finding the tightest lines

Rocket Racing is all about holding down the throttle, using wide drifts to take on corners and build your boost. Unlike games like Mario Kart, where you try to slow down your opponents with banana skins, Rocket Racing is all about finding the tightest lines. And your rocket-powered car can do just that, flying over the track and riding up the walls and ceilings. In fact, your car is designed to do this. You can gravitate to the ceiling with a simple button tap to avoid nasty obstacles.

Competitive catch-up

There is a catch-up mechanic. The cars that are lagging behind will be able to drive faster to catch up. This keeps things competitive and makes staying in first much harder to manage.

Personality and risk versus reward

Rocket Racing has plenty of personality that will separate it from the other cart racers out there, even if people will note the similarities also. It’s more about risk versus reward than many of the cart racers we’ve played and opens the genre up to a new audience.

Plenty of tracks and a track editor

There are 20 tracks across three different biomes, with a track editor promised for the future.

Worth a try

As a free extra for an already excellent free-to-play game, it’s well worth a try.
