SUMMER Games Fest is announcing and showing gameplay for 2023’s biggest games.
A number of unexpected announcements were made including a 2D Prince of Persia game.
It a classic Sonic game in the style of the 3D series.
One of the more unexpected trailers from the showcase was a new 2D Sonic adventure.
Called Sonic Superstars, it goes back to Sonic’s roots with 2D platforming action, but with a brand new 3D art style.
You can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles or Amy, or team up with up to three friends and play as all of them at the same time.
For the first time in a Sonic game, you can play through the entire campaign with up to 3 other players with drop-in and drop-out four-player local cooperative play.
In this new Sonic game, the Chaos Emeralds will give you new powers that you can use throughout the levels.
This includes things we’ve never seen Sonic do before like multiplying, swimming up waterfalls, and changing form.
Sonic Origins Plus is releasing later this month, and is sure to give fans a thirst for an all new 2D game.
While Team Sonic is still focusing on 3D games like Sonic Frontiers, its nice to see them cater to both sides of the fandom.
No specific release date was given, but it was announced that it will come out later this year.
It’s coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, so you’ll be able to play it on whichever platform you prefer.
