Gamers Raise Over $2.5 Million for Charity Through Week-Long Gaming Event

Proving Gaming is Not a Waste of Time

A group of gamers shattered the myth that gaming is a waste of time by raising over $2.5 million for charity during a week-long gaming event.

What is GDQ?

Games Done Quick (GDQ) is one of the world's largest charity events, with two events held annually to raise funds for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders.

Speedrunning for a Cause

The recent Summer Games Done Quick event featured over 140 games played for almost 168 hours, with speedrunners completing games in record time to fit more into the event.

Not Just Speedrunning

Aside from speedruns, the event included 100% completion runs, challenging game runs, and even unique runs like a dog playing Major League Baseball.

Online Streaming and Donations

The event was streamed on Twitch and uploaded to YouTube, with viewers donating money throughout the week to unlock incentives like upgrading game difficulty or adding bonus games.

Milestone Achievement

SGDQ 2024 marked a milestone achievement with over $50 million raised for charity since the event's inception in 2010, making it a significant moment in GDQ history.

Looking to the Future

Games Done Quick will return in January 2025 for their next event, but you can catch up on all previous GDQ runs on their YouTube channel.
