SUPER Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has explained the reasons why you can’t find Mario’s games on mobile.
Many fans of the old NES titles would love to be able to play their old Mario games on the go, but they aren’t on mobile apps.
You can’t find classic Super Mario games on mobile.
The only current option to play these games is via Nintendo Switch Online.
However, people don’t always have their Switch on them in the same way they carry their mobile phones around.
In an interview with Variety, Miyamoto talked about why Mario’s mobile adventures are only those created specifically for mobile.
He explains: “First and foremost, Nintendo’s core strategy is a hardware and software integrated gaming experience.
“The intuitiveness of the control is a part of the gaming experience.
“When we explored the opportunity of making Mario games for the mobile phone — which is a more common, generic device — it was challenging to determine what that game should be.
“That is why I played the role of director for Super Mario Run, to be able to translate that Nintendo hardware experience into the smart devices.”
Nintendo’s mobile games such as Super Mario Run, and Mario Kart Tour are nowhere near as popular as their console counterparts.
So why does Nintendo continue to develop games for mobile gamers?
Miyamoto says: “Having Mario games as mobile apps expands the doorway for far more audience to experience the game, and also expands the Mario gaming experience, where you only need your thumb on one hand.
“We try to define what is the gameplay, what is the method, and then define what devices we go on.”
It seems that Super Mario’s old game won’t be coming to mobile in the future, unless those games are specifically made for it.
