FromSoftware responds to player complaints by adjusting difficulty in Elden Ring DLC

Players voice concerns

Usually, people know what they are getting into with a FromSoftware game. The developer of Dark Souls is known for creating very challenging games, and that’s what fans buy them for. However, with the release of the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, for Elden Ring, players have complained that the difficulty level has gone too far.

Changes made

FromSoftware has taken player feedback into consideration and has released an update with a number of difficulty adjustments. In particular, the first half of the game has been made significantly easier, as this section received the most complaints. It seems that players may not have reached the second half of the DLC yet, as complaints about its difficulty are not as prevalent.

Gameplay adjustments

With Shadow of the Erdtree, FromSoftware has changed the way characters level up. Enemies are now scaled to your level, making higher level players not significantly stronger. Players must now collect and use Scadutree Fragments to boost attack and negate damage. The latest patch has increased the efficiency of these fragments, requiring fewer to achieve the same power increase.

How to maintain original difficulty

If you prefer to play Shadow of the Erdtree as FromSoftware originally intended, make sure to turn off auto updates on your console. This will prevent the patch from being implemented, although auto updates will not trigger if your console is not connected to the internet.
