Fortnite Servers Down for Maintenance: Here's What You Need to Know

How long will Fortnite servers be down?

Fortnite players around the world are currently experiencing downtime as the game undergoes scheduled maintenance. The popular battle royale title had informed users in advance that there would be maintenance on 16 November between 9am and 1pm (UTC). While the servers were expected to be up and running again at 1pm, some players were caught off guard when the servers closed slightly earlier than expected. Needless to say, this left many gamers frustrated.

Players express frustration on social media

Following the early closure of the servers, some players took to social media to voice their disappointment. One player even demanded that Fortnite give everyone the "rust bucket backpack" as compensation. Others missed the memo altogether and were surprised to find themselves logged out of the game. One player tweeted, "Bro, why did I get logged out and then Fortnite said servers are not working? Did this happen to you?" Another player expressed their frustration, asking, "WHY ARE FORTNITE SERVERS DOWN WHEN I FINALLY WANNA PLAY."

Scheduling downtime to minimize disruption

Fortnite tries to schedule maintenance during times when most of its players are either at school or work, in order to minimize the impact on gameplay. While it may be frustrating in the moment, the servers are expected to be back up and running by 1pm, allowing players to dive back into the action.

Why is Fortnite down?

The scheduled maintenance is in preparation for the upcoming update 27.10 and the launch of both Season 7 and Season 8 in Fortnite OG. Fortnite OG recently brought back beloved features from the game's first-ever season as a tribute to its oldest fans. The OG version of the game is progressing through its seasons much faster than the contemporary version, with each segment lasting just one week this month. Two weeks ago, Fortnite players experienced a similar downtime for maintenance, which introduced Seasons 5 and 6 into the game.
