Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Review - Making Your Own Fun

The Thrill of Stealing Handbags

When playing Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, my friends and I found ourselves stealing handbags, not for the resources they provided, but for the excitement it brought. Developed by Don't Nod, known for games like Life is Strange, Banishers offers players a plethora of choices to make. However, we decided to create our own fun by indulging in some larceny.

Choices and Consequences

One of the early decisions in the game involves the fate of protagonist Antea Duarte. We had the choice to let her die or bring her back through the slaughter of innocents. While these choices have consequences, we didn't feel a strong connection to the characters, making it easier to slay them without remorse. Interestingly, just like in Life is Strange, Banishers allows players to go back and undo their decisions, which can diminish the impact of the story.

Visuals and Mythos

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden boasts impressive visuals and a captivating new world. The mythos surrounding the game is intriguing, but unfortunately, the depth of the game falls short. There is an abundance of dialogue, but little substance. Combat feels clunky, with a cumbersome system of switching between characters. Exploration lacks satisfying rewards. In a competitive digital world filled with top-notch games, Banishers may not be worth your time.

Making Your Own Fun

Despite its shortcomings, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden can still provide enjoyment if players choose to make their own fun. Whether it's stealing handbags or experimenting with different choices, players can find solace in creating their own experiences within the game.
