Attention PlayStation Fans: Check Your Attics for These Rare Games Worth Thousands

The world of game collecting has experienced a resurgence during the pandemic, with exceptionally rare games fetching thousands of pounds.

The Rarest Games: PlayStation Titles in Single Digits

Among the rarest games ever released are three PlayStation titles, each with only a handful of copies in existence.

All three games are developed by Nicalis, and their existence was so unknown that even avid collectors were unaware of them.

A Surprise Discovery

The first hints of these Nicalis games emerged in 2016 when a store page for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth for the PlayStation Vita mysteriously appeared on platforms like PlayAsia.

However, the game had no release date, leading many to believe that it was merely a placeholder for a future release.

In 2019, two more Nicalis games, VVVVVV and 1001 Spikes, were discovered when copies of these games were found in a second-hand game store in Japan.

These copies had punch holes through the barcodes, indicating that they were promotional copies given to Sony employees.

With only a few copies of each game in existence, they were quickly put up for sale on eBay, where they fetched hundreds of pounds each.

A Warning from Nicalis

Nicalis took to Twitter to caution fans against purchasing these rare copies.

The tweet stated: "PSA: Certain unannounced PS Vita physical games, including 1001 Spikes and VVVVVV, have been illegally sold on eBay before their official release dates.

"Please note that these are unlimited runs. Do not get ripped off by overpaying on eBay.

Look forward to the official versions of these games when they are sold legally through the upcoming Nicalis online store."

However, the official versions of these games were never released or sold, and Nicalis ceased responding to inquiries about the rare copies.

The copies that have appeared on eBay are extremely limited, with only a handful available, and they now command prices in the thousands.

The Rarest Game: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

In 2021, the first copy of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was discovered on eBay.

With only two copies known to exist, it is considered the rarest game among the Nicalis trio.

Owners of these games might be sitting on a goldmine without even realizing it, as prices for these rare titles continue to soar year after year.
