Taking Bitcoin Education to Africa

Trezor, the hardware cryptocurrency wallet firm, has unveiled its latest initiative to promote Bitcoin education in Africa. The Trezor Academy was officially launched at the Africa Bitcoin Conference in Accra, Ghana, on December 4. The program aims to spread Bitcoin knowledge across the continent through in-person meetups led by local experts.

Expanding to More African Countries

Trezor initially launched the pilot program in 2023 and has since been active in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya. In 2024, the company plans to establish academies in over ten new African countries and educate local educators to further promote Bitcoin awareness.

Bitcoin Adoption in Africa

Trezor CEO Matej Zak believes that Bitcoin adoption is particularly relevant in Africa due to the benefits it provides for local initiatives such as payment schemes, microfinancing, and savings. The Trezor Academy aims to empower individuals across Africa with the potential of Bitcoin.

Bitcoineta: Spreading Bitcoin Awareness

As part of its education program, Trezor also sponsors Bitcoineta, a Bitcoin-themed car that travels around West African countries including Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. The Bitcoineta campaign, launched in 2018, aims to raise awareness of Bitcoin in rural communities and schools.

Documenting the Journey

The African Bitcoineta road trip began on December 1 and will be documented through video blogs and other media channels. The progress of the Bitcoineta Land Rover can be followed on the official Bitcoineta X (formerly Twitter) account.

Trezor expressed gratitude to the Bitcoin community for their support, which has made the Trezor Academy and other initiatives possible. The company has raised funds through the sale of its limited edition, Bitcoin-only version of the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet.
