A Gift and a Curse: The Pressure of Fame
Talk to any musician who has "made it," and they’ll say that achieving fame is both a gift and a curse. While success in entertainment can obviously bring many positives, it also carries the pressure to stay relevant, the worry of constantly needing to stay connected to fans, and the loss of freedom and privacy that comes with being a regular Joe — all of which can be utterly exhausting. Add a jam-packed events schedule that robs artists of the time to detox and socialize, and fame begins to look like just as much a burden as it may be a blessing.
The Struggle to Break Through
On the flip side, those aspiring to break through and finally go mainstream deal with the pressure of an uphill climb and the potential outcome that after all the struggle, there might not be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Wellness and Community for Creators
For this reason, mental health, wellness and feeling like one is plugged into a community are things all creators need to allocate time to, and The Homies DAO is focused on just that.
Creating a Safe Space for Artists
During Episode 17 of The Agenda podcast, singer and The Homies DAO founder Iman Europe discussed how the collective is using Web3 to bring artists together to focus on wellbeing. Europe highlighted the loneliness that many musicians feel and the challenge of maintaining social connections. The Homies DAO provides a safe space and community where creators can socialize, unwind, meditate, work out, and engage in activities that offer a sense of community.
The Homies Hangout: Physical, Spiritual, and Mental Wellness
The Homies DAO is hosting its first event, the Homies Hangout, where participants will have the opportunity to engage in various forms of wellness. The event will include physical wellness activities like exercise and spinning, spiritual wellness activities like a sound bath and affirmations, and a group therapy session to discuss mental wellness and share resources to improve it.
Future Plans for The Homies DAO
The Homies DAO has plans for monthly in-person and online meetups to check in with each other and provide a space for artists. Additionally, they plan to create educational content, mint projects through the DAO with artists, and expand to offline retreats and artist residencies.
A Focus on Community and Wellness
The Homies DAO aims to prioritize building a community rather than focusing solely on profits. With a limited membership of 500, the DAO wants to foster authentic connections and maintain an intimate environment. Europe believes that when wellness becomes about clout and speculation, it loses its true purpose and power.
