Frictionless Onboarding for Gamers
Web3 gaming company Immutable has announced plans to eliminate gas fee payments for gamers with the launch of its proprietary zero-knowledge proof-based (ZK-proofs) scaling platform in early 2024. The new platform, called Immutable zkEVM, will allow blockchain-based game developers to remove transaction fees for end users, creating a seamless and user-friendly experience for gamers.
Gas Fees and Gaming
In traditional Web3 games built on blockchain protocols, gamers are required to pay gas fees to network validators for processing transactions. This has been a barrier for conventional gamers who are accustomed to transaction-free gaming experiences. However, with the introduction of Immutable's zkEVM, this obstacle will be eliminated, allowing for a more accessible and enjoyable gaming experience.
The Future of Web3 Games
Immutable's Chief Technology Officer, Alex Connolly, emphasized the importance of providing a familiar and streamlined user experience for mainstream players. He stated that gas fees are a norm in the blockchain space that mainstream players won't accept. By removing gas fees, Immutable's zkEVM aims to increase player adoption and revenues for game studios, ultimately making blockchain-based gaming more appealing to a wider audience.
Sponsoring Gas Fees
Game developers will have the option to sponsor gas fee payments through the Immutable zkEVM, effectively canceling out these transactions for users of Immutable Passport. Additionally, Immutable plans to sponsor gas fees for all of its ecosystem games during the mainnet launch for a limited time. This sponsorship is expected to reduce costs for game studios and encourage further adoption of Web3 gaming.
Lower Development Costs and Increased Ownership Rights
Immutable's zkEVM will provide game developers with access to lower development costs and the security and network effects of the Ethereum ecosystem. The platform aims to increase ownership rights for Web3 gamers, offering a more immersive and rewarding gaming experience. Over 20 gaming studios, including GameStop and Kongregate, have pledged their support for the beta launch of Immutable's zkEVM.
