The Ministry of Education partners with non-profit organization to bring Bitcoin to classrooms
The Ministry of Education of El Salvador has announced a groundbreaking initiative to introduce Bitcoin education to public schools by 2024. In partnership with the non-profit organization Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin (MPB/MFB), the ministry aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Bitcoin and its potential.
MPB founder John Dennehy confirmed that the project is led by the Ministry of Education, with MPB and Bitcoin Beach assisting in its implementation. Dennehy revealed that the curriculum will draw on MPB's program "My First Bitcoin," which awards students with a diploma upon completion.
Pilot program to begin this September
The training for the pilot program is set to commence on September 7, with support from Bitcoin Beach. The program will initially train 150 public school teachers from 75 schools to equip them with a foundational knowledge of Bitcoin.
Dennehy emphasized the importance of quality education in shaping a positive example for other nations, stating, "As the first nation to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador will be an example for the world."
Expansion to all schools by next year
If the pilot program proves successful, Dennehy explained that the Bitcoin education curriculum will be rolled out to every school in the country by next year. This will provide students across El Salvador with the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of Bitcoin and its applications.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for MPB, as it aligns with the organization's long-term goal of bringing Bitcoin education to the world. Dennehy revealed that MPB is already in early discussions with two other Latin American governments interested in implementing similar programs.
Cuba shows interest in Bitcoin education
In a related development, Bitcoin Cuba recently announced the opening of sign-ups for its own version of Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin. This demonstrates the growing interest in Bitcoin education beyond El Salvador, as other countries recognize its potential to empower students with financial knowledge.
The journey to mainstream Bitcoin adoption starts with education, and El Salvador is leading the way. As the world watches, it is expected that more nations will follow suit in the coming years.
