Vaccinated people may be JUST as contagious as Delta variant is spreading faster than common cold, leaked CDC doc warns

VACCINATED people may be just as contagious as the unvaccinated as the deadly Delta Covid variant is spreading faster than the common cold, a leaked CDC document has warned.

A worrying slide presentation shared internally by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is causing the nation’s top public health authority to change tact as the raging Delta mutation spreads – sending cases and hospitalizations soaring.

“I finished reading it significantly more concerned than when I began,” Robert Wachter, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco, wrote in an email to the Washington Post who reviewed the unreleased document.

The document also pushes the CDC to recalibrate its public messaging.

It cites “communication challenges” for those who are vaccinated and unsure if they remain protected from the virus as opposed to a “public convinced vaccines no longer work/booster doses needed.”

‘WAR HAS CHANGED’

That is where the researchers determined in the document that the CDC and its partners need to “acknowledge the war has changed.”

The new findings were discovered by research conducted outside the CDC suggest fully vaccinated people who become infected with the Delta variant can carry substantial quantities of Covid-19 in the nose and throat, the CDC’s director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told the New York Times. 

The agency is reviewing the slide show information and is expected to be releasing a formal report on Friday.

The new information throws a wrench into what scientists had initially answered with earlier versions of the disease: namely, that vaccinated people were mostly incapable of infecting others.

‘BREAKTHROUGH’ CASES

The new research may have touched on a widespread outbreak in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where after Independence Day, there have been 882 Covid-19 cases counted. 

Nearly three-quarters of the sick were fully vaccinated, the Times reported.

The agency also is utilizing data from the Covid-19 Sports and Society Workgroup, a professional sports league coalition that is performing more than 10,000 Covid-19 tests on people every day and tracing the infections and their sequencing.

There are now more cases popping up of so-called breakthrough infections – where despite getting the requisite shots – they are just as susceptible to catching and spreading Delta variant as unvaccinated people; even if they don’t show any symptoms. 

Already, the US is witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases – with hospitalizations trending up throughout the country. 

In states with low vaccination rates, specifically Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Nevada who were averaging less than 400 cases a day at the start of July and since have been reporting more than 2,400 cases a day, according to the Times. 

Of those admitted to hospitals with Covid-19, 97 per cent are unvaccinated, according to the CDC.

The situation to control spread is so urgent that President Joe Biden is calling on States to pay Americans to get immunized.

Biden called on local governments to set aside some of his $1.9trillion American Rescue Plan – which included $350billion to help state and local governments rebound from the coronavirus – and gift $100 payments to people who have yet to roll up their sleeves and receive the vaccine.

“I know that paying people to get vaccinated might sound unfair to folks that have gotten vaccinated already,” he said.

“But here’s the deal: if incentives help us beat this virus, I believe we should use them. We all benefit if we can get more people vaccinated.”
