The news came as the first patients received the new Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine to protect them against coronavirus.

In the coming weeks, millions of Brits will be given the “miracle” jab at hundreds of vaccine centres all over the country.

And 50,000 Volunteer Stewards are needed.

On New Year’s Day we teamed up with the Royal Voluntary Society charity to launch Trending In The News’s Jabs Army to help recruit volunteers.

And after just four days, 10,589 readers have already signed up to give their time to help.

Last night Royal Voluntary Society Chief Executive Catherine Johnstone said: “We’re just a few days into our campaign and have already been overwhelmed by the response from Sun readers.”

Stewards will guide people on site. You only need to commit to two six-hour shifts a month at a vaccination service near you.

No prior experience or qualifications are needed.
