Peter Andre insists children should not be forced to get Covid vaccine saying pressure must not be put on parents

Peter Andre has said he “definitely” doesn’t think children should have to have the Covid vaccine and called on the government not to pressure parents.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 48, made his opinion on the matter very clear in his latest New! magazine column.

Last month it was revealed that mums and dads of 12 to 15-year-olds will get an official letter asking for consent to give their children the jab.

However, the dad-of-four doesn’t agree with it.

Peter wrote: “I have discussed this with the kids and I do think things like this should be a joint discussion and a decision between the parents and children.

“I definitely do not think it should be mandatory for children to be vaccination and I’m so glad it isn’t.”

Although Pete went on to weigh up the pros and cons of having the vaccine.

He added: “At the same time I also wouldn’t want it to stop them travelling or pose any problems for them if they don’t have it, and it obviously does have its benefits.”

Back in March the star admitted that he was worried about his four children having the coronavirus vaccine.

He questioned why the government intended to give his kids jabs when the chance of them getting seriously ill from coronavirus is highly unlikely.

In one of his previous columns for the magazine, he said: “It’s reported that kids will get COVID vaccinations from August. I’d be OK with my kids having the vaccine, providing there is some end goal we felt was beneficial for them. Where I’m confused is if all adults will have had the jab by then, why would kids need it?

“Especially as we have always been told they are less affected by the virus and, if so, not able to spread it to adults who have had their vaccine. I guess I understand it’s to protect the elderly who can’t have a shot for whatever reason. Right now, I’m not sure. But I’d rather the kids have the jab than two COVID swabs a week for years to come.”

His NHS doctor Emily, 32, contracted the deadly bug last year and the pop star tested positive in January of this year.

Despite his views on children getting the jab, Peter shared a video of his wife getting the vaccine earlier this year and urged everyone to help each other.

The Covid-19 vaccine rollout started back in December 2020 and since then, over 49 million Brits have received their first dose.

This means that 45.4m people are now fully vaccinated in a bid to fight against the deadly bug.

And while boosters will now be given to frontline workers, over 50s, and young people with underlying conditions, they want more younger people to get the jab.

Children aged 12 to 15 will be offered one jab, while some are being offered two if they have an underlying condition or live with someone likely to get infections.

Peter is dad to Junior, 16, and Princess, 14, who he shares with ex Katie Price.

He also has four-year-old Theodore and Amelia, seven, with his doctor wife Emily.
