On The Beach promises free PCR Covid tests for those booking holidays with them

BRITAIN’S third biggest travel operator is promising free Covid tests for those taking holidays with it this year.

Online agent On The Beach will pay for people heading to Spanish and Greek destinations if they book this month.

The company says it will automatically arrange the tests when customers choose a break — and has vowed to deliver them 48 hours before departure.

The antigen test, to be taken on holiday, and the PCR test, by day two at home, will be booked with provider Collinson.

On The Beach, which axed peak summer holidays in May over traffic light rule uncertainty, claims the freebie will cost more than £1million.

It comes after one in three people said the cost of tests was a main reason they had not booked a break this year. A quarter who were not planning one said free tests would make them more likely to do so.

Boss Simon Cooper said: “The financial and administrative implications of PCR testing are still a barrier for many.”

His company is also offering a refund if a holiday is axed due to Covid and free cancellation costs if a traveller gets Covid or has to isolate.
