JOHNSON & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine was endorsed by a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel on Friday, clearing a hurdle for a third jab to fight the virus.
The advisory panel on a 22-0 vote recommended that the FDA grant emergency authorization for Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine.
The FDA could give the green light for the jab as soon as Saturday.
Next, the Johnson & Johnson jab must receive a recommendation from a Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) panel set to meet Sunday.
“We are on the precipice of having another vaccine in our toolbox,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said on Friday.
“Having an additional safe and effective vaccine will help protect more people faster.”
