SPAIN is set to increase its Covid vaccine entry requirements from the beginning of next month.
The new rules could cause an immediate problem for Brits with plans to go abroad for the half term holidays.
From February 1, Spain will only permit Brits who can prove they were fully vaccinated against Covid within the last 270 days to enter.
Anyone who received their second dose more than nine months ago must have had a booster jab to be allowed in.
The booster must have been given more than 14 days before travelling.
Spain’s official travel website Safe Spain states: “From February 1, 2022, in order to travel to Spain with a vaccination certificate, the certificate must have been issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin at least 14 days after the date of administration of the last dose of the full course of vaccination, as long as the final dose of that course of vaccination was no more than 270 days ago.”
The new requirement may cause problems for Brits who haven’t yet had their booster and are hoping to visit Spain during half term.
Vaccinated Brits who had their second jab more than nine months ago but not yet had their booster must get it more than two weeks before half term to enter Spain during the holidays.
Travel to Spain has been severely disrupted in the past two months due to the country’s strict entry requirements.
Covid rules are increasing in parts of the country as authorities try to keep the spread of Omicron at a manageable level.
In Murcia, Covid restrictions have been extended until February 4 – including a ban on dancing.
Canary Islands Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria are on Level 4 Covid alert – the highest level – due to increasing cases.
Under Level 4 rules, beaches are limited to 50 per cent capacity and appointments may be required for people who want to visit the beach.
A maximum of six people can meet up indoors or outdoors and Covid passports must be shown to get inside all establishments.
The new vaccine rule will come as a blow to Spain’s tourism industry, which has suffered during the pandemic.
Hoteliers have slammed authorities for damaging the industry, which caused thousands of Brits to cancel their holidays in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
