EXCITED penguins opened up the first door of their advent calendar at London Zoo today – ahead of its grand reopening tomorrow.
The gaggle of hungry birds swarmed around their keeper, complete with a Santa hat, to look at their fish-themed calendar.
The famous zoo is opening up its doors tomorrow as England’s lockdown ends.
From Wednesday visitors can enjoy a festive day out at the zoo – while helping support global conservation work with each ticket.
Fun footage shows the waddle of penguins enthusiastically trying to nab the small fish sticking out of the December 1 slot.
Eventually one manages to grab the treat, kicking off the unique advent countdown for the water-loving creatures.
All of England will again be divided into a three-tier system from tomorrow, designed to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The measures will be constantly monitored with the areas reviewed every two week – with the first review set for December 16.
As London is in Tier 2, the zoo is allowed to open, and has put plenty of Covid safety measures in place.
Visitors need to pre-book and wear masks in some walk-through exhibits and indoor areas.
Everyone must stick to social distancing and follow the one-way routes, making good use of the hand sanitiser available throughout the zoo.
Some talks may not be running, but otherwise the zoo is ready to be open and welcome visitors.
