DR FAUCI has warned that the Delta surge in the US will send Covid cases soaring to more than 200k per day before plummeting, like in the UK.
Fauci said on Tuesday that cases will continue to go up before dropping, even though more people appear to be getting the vaccine in the US.
“Since an acceleration of vaccines doesn’t give a result until several weeks after, we are already on a trajectory that looks strikingly similar to the sharp incline that the UK saw,” Fauci said during a conversation with the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Covid-19 cases in the US have risen 266 percent in the last three weeks, from around 23,000 cases per day to around 85,000.
Over in the UK, daily cases have continued to fall, to around 21,000 daily, from a steep spike earlier this summer.
“Remember, we went from an average of about 12 to 15,000 cases a day to 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, we’re up to 70 now,” Fauci said about cases in the US.
“We are going to be between 100 and 200,000 cases [daily] before this thing starts to turn around.”
CASELOADS DROPPED IN THE UK
Similar predictions were made in the UK when the nation was experiencing a Covid-19 spike last month.
UK Secretary of State for Health Sajib Javid predicted that daily cases would reach 100,000, but they never surpassed 54,674, which was recorded in the middle of July.
Since then, caseloads have dropped every week.
Fauci said that the spike in cases in the US goes to show how important the Covid vaccine is in getting the pandemic under control.
“In order to make sure that by the time we get into the fall we don’t continue to accelerate but turn around and start coming down acutely, we’ve got to get those 93 million people who are eligible to be vaccinated, who are not getting vaccinated,” he said.
BIDEN TALKS VACCINE INCENTIVES
President Joe Biden spoke about incentives to get the vaccine on Tuesday.
He urged local governments to use funds from his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan to offer $100 payments to people who have still not received the vaccine.
“I know that paying people to get vaccinated might sound unfair to folks that have gotten vaccinated already,” he started.
“But here’s the deal: if incentives help us beat this virus, I believe we should use them. We all benefit if we can get more people vaccinated.”
Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that even vaccinated Americans may need to begin masking up again due to rising cases.
The agency said that people “in areas with substantial and high transmissions” should wear masks indoors – whether or not they are vaccinated.
