The entire family contracted coronavirus – leaving the mum and gran in hospital

The 49-year-old has now given a harrowing warning to people – “Don’t let this be you.”

The family, who live in Whitwick, Leicestershire, fell ill after Anabel’s 12-year-old son caught coronavirus following his return to school in September.

It wasn’t long before Maria, Anabel, her husband Bharat, and their other sons Jacob, 22, and Noah, 10, all became ill.

Maria and Anabel were both taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary and were placed on oxygen in October.

Two weeks later, the gran told her daughter that she had signed a Do Not Resuscitate order.

The next day, doctors wheeled Anabel to her mum’s bedside and Maria died on November 1.

Anabel left hospital a month later, but has badly damaged lungs and needs oxygen to get around.

The 49-year-old said that the speed which the virus ravaged through her family was scary – adding that its a “roulette whether you will survive.”

Anabel told the Mirror: “If anyone is thinking about breaking the rules, I’d urge them to put themselves in my shoes and think about what it might be like to watch your mum die, or be told that you might not live.”

COVID TRAGEDY

She added that her whole family had been very careful during the pandemic – since her mum lives with her.

The family would get food deliveries and Anabel only left the house to do the school run.

In her final moments, Maria took her oxygen mask off to say goodbye to Anabel and her sister Susana, who was allowed on the ward in PPE.

The number of daily UK coronavirus cases reached a record high yesterday as 57,725 new infections were recorded.

It was the fifth day in a row the figure broke 50,000 and brings the total number of positive tests in Britain to 2,599,789.

Another 445 Covid deaths were recorded, meaning 74,570 people have now died from the bug in the UK since the start of the pandemic.

Yesterday’s rise in cases is considerably bigger than it was last Saturday, when 35,691 new cases were recorded.

The number of fatalities reported in the last 24 hours is also almost double the figure seen a week ago (230).

It comes after Matt Hancock revealed more than one million Brits have now had the Covid vaccine while declaring the “end is in sight”.

Mr Hancock tweeted today: “Huge THANK YOU to everyone playing their part in the national effort to beat coronavirus.

“Over a million people have been vaccinated already.

“With the vaccine roll-out accelerating, the end is in sight & we will get through this together.”

The news comes against a backdrop of tough Covid restrictions, with almost all of England now living under Tier 3 and Tier 4 restrictions.

All primary schools in London will now remain shut for at least an extra two weeks after Christmas as cases spiral – with calls for schools across the country to follow.

One headteachers’ union has launched legal action against the government, demanding all schools shut.
